“Chop, rip, tear, and cut random bits of fiber. Arrange, rearrange, discard, add, or subtract new bits. Stitch, paint, and quilt. Restoration! Art has emerged from the chaos.”
A feeling of movement is created with the addition of machine appliqué elements to a pieced foundation. This base piece, with its quarter round blocks, is reminiscent of a traditional pattern block but goes beyond traditional sewing methods. The artist uses machine appliqué to add bright, patterned fabrics to the surface. Machine quilting echoes the pieces, while hand stitched motifs move the eye around and through the piece. This piece is finished with a facing on the back side and has a hanging sleeve.
