Rising from the Ashes…

Jo Baner
35” x 22”
Cotton fabrics, Angelina fibers

“Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, the Gaches mansion fire in 1973 inspired me to try an innovative technique in machine appliqué to portray its restoration.”

The Gaches Mansion is quilted onto the black background using blue and grey threads. The Phoenix is made by first appliquéing fabric to create the bird and then covering the fabric Angelina®  fibers and securing them with machine stitches. The piece is bordered with a tiny, blue metallic braid and a small binding in black. The piece has a hanging sleeve.
