“A picture is worth a thousand words” and I feel that the quilt is self-explanatory. Real Color printed the composite picture of the Museum which I composed in Photoshop on fabric and then I used some paint, and waterproof Sharpies to finish detail before I machine quilted it. The beads went on last just before the binding.”
On the right half of this piece, three layers of sheer tulle have been used to create a dark and drab feeling, depicting the state of the Gaches Mansion as it is today. The left side of the piece envisions the Mansion after restoration: Refreshed and sparkling bright.
To enhance the photo transfer image of the Mansion, the artist has used paint and waterproof Sharpie pens to highlight colors, as well as hand beading to accent the trim along the eaves and the “sparkly” sunshine. The piece is hand quilted and finished with a small border in a Batik print followed by a wide mitered edging in a paisley print. Note the custom nameplate attached to the bottom of the piece. The backing is a cotton “currency” print. This piece has a hanging sleeve.
