"Barns & Botanicals"

March 19 - May 11, 2008
Works by Laura Fogg

Textile artist Laura Fogg is a master of fabric collage landscapes. Her original designs have a 3-D effect, often a distant view framed by a highly detailed & enlarged foreground, with elements spilling over the edge. The effect is dynamic & stunning.

Her work employs raw-edge applique, free-hand machine quilting, surface embellishments & other artistic techniques. She typically works from memory or photos of scenes & landscapes that catch her eye.

"Barns & Botanicals" is an exhibit of 30 of her works that represent this theme. Over a third were created specifically for this exhibit & are based on photos she took while visiting Skagit Valley.

"MetroTextural"

March 19 - May 11, 2008

Manhattan Quilters Guild
Curator: Sandra Sider

The Manhattan Quilters Guild, an eclectic group of professional fiber artists, created "MetroTextural" to celebrate the visual feast of New York City. Each of the 21 works is a quilted 36-inch-square that somehow relates to texture & the City.

On national tour through 2009, MetroTextural is the first group show from MQG to be exhibited in the Northwest. Taking elements from signage & advertisements, historic buildings, urban voices & other aspects of the cityscape, this multi-layered exhibit reflects the diversity of the urban environment as well as the individuality of the textile artists who created the work.
