During the 1890′s and for about thirty years, the Crazy Quilt rage continued. Many older Crazy Quilts are composed of bright-color fabrics in silks, velvets that have been sewn to a foundation fabric and have the added embellishment of embroidery stitches, as seen in the 1885 quilt below.
The quilts in this exhibit will include lavishly embroidered quilts as well as quilts that don’t include the fancy stitches. Seen at left, Log Cabin Var.: Square in a Square, a foundation pieced quilt (c.1890) made with many silks and shiny fabrics.
