During the 1890′s and for about thirty years, the Crazy Quilt rage continued. Many older Crazy Quilts are composed of bright-color fabrics in silks, velvets that have been sewn to a foundation fabric and have the added embellishment of embroidery stitches, as seen in the 1885 quilt below.
T
he quilts in this exhibit will include lavishly embroidered quilts as well as quilts that don’t include the fancy stitches. Seen at left, Log Cabin Var.: Square in a Square, a foundation pieced quilt (c.1890) made with many silks and shiny fabrics.
