Helen Remick is a quilt artist who is drawn to symmetry, mandalas, and spirals. She is inspired by traditional patterns and Islamic art forms. Op-art concepts are often lurking in the background. Pinwheel Evolution (left) combines a traditional pinwheel pattern with the added twist of Yo-Yo pinwheels spinning off the center field.
Janet Kurjan, a former geneticist, is a fiber artist who is attracted to irregular shapes. Her inspiration for color and texture comes from a variety of sources: primitive textiles, photography books about nature or architecture, and detail shots, which make objects appear to be abstracted. Her piece, Festivities (left), is one of her Log Cabin series quilts.
