Join us at the Museum of Northwest Art in downtown La Conner for a lecture on the History of Hawaiian Quilting by Nancy Lee Chong. Nancy began making Hawaiian quilts in 1978, and immediately became a student of the folklore surrounding this spectacular quilting art form. With her own quilts, she shares what she has learned about the traditions and superstitions that are interwoven with Hawaiian quiltmaking, the mysterious story of how they began, and how they became her obsession.  Afterwards, meet Nancy and fellow enthusiasts for hors d’oeuvres and beverages.
Hawaiian attire is optional, but encouraged.Nancy’s Bio:  Her first quilt was a queen size Hawaiian quilt; made in 1980, while she was living in Hawaii. She began teaching stress-free needleturn techniques and Hawaiian quiltmaking in 1982. Nancy’s degree in education, her experience with all styles of appliqué, and her understanding of what a beginner goes through, makes her one of the premier appliqué teachers in the US.
