Tulip Quilt
Maker, Unknown
c. 1860
77.5″ x 79″
Nine hand-appliquéd blocks–three tulips, stems and four leaves form block motifs. Blocks measure 14.5″ x 14.5″ and are set on point without sashing. The rows face inward to allow the viewer approaching the bed from the side to see the design face on. Cottons: red solid, green has fine dot print (green color is fading-possibly overdyed?)
Hand quilted around each tulip bouquet and in 1″ lines over background of blocks and alternate blocks. The four alternate blocks also feature a wreath of quilted feathers with six columns comprised of double & triple lines in center of each wreath. Setting triangles have 1″ grid lines.
Part of our permanent collection.
