Naiome Katherine Prante machine pieced twenty 13.5″ Ohio Star blocks in all cottons, composed of checks and plaids with a muslin background. The blocks had once been set together but taken apart at some point. Three of the blocks still had a 1.25″ strip of sashing attached. Mariana Foliart, a member of the Museum Conservation Team, reset the blocks with a comparable sashing, while leaving the original pieces in place. A 2.75″ border finishes the outside edges.
Cotton batting is used for the filler, while the backing is a cotton white on white, finished with a subtle brown print bias binding. Machine quilting, in-the-ditch, outlines the blocks in this Ohio Star.
Part of our permanent collection.
