Lloyd Herman, Director Emeritus of the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Art Museum, will take us on a whirlwind visual tour of “craft” as it became recognized as “art” in the past 100 years. In his 20 years at the Smithsonian Institution, and 25 as an independent curator, he has witnessed first-hand the flowering of the surface design and wearable art movements, and the growth of such off-loom techniques as basketry and art quilting, and will discuss them in the context of the flowering of the American Studio Craft Movement.
Presented by the La Conner Quilt &Textile Museum; hosted by the Museum of Northwest Art on Saturday, February 25 at 6pm. This event will be located at 121 First Street, La Conner WA.
