“The imagery for my work often comes from the communities they are shown in…These subjects act as a means of reflecting the public and private nature of nostalgia, utility, or notions of comfort…My goal is to engage the seams between art and craft, form and function, space and materiality, while advancing the art of quilt making in contemporary culture.”
The artist took castoff clothing and created a new life for the old pieces. Each piece of this work is a different weight, texture, and color. Using thread and hand guided machine sewing to create the various elements of the building, a picture silhouette appears. Machine quilting to hold the layers together appears around the building and also forms sky and fence designs. A clever, machine-serged binding finishes the piece. This piece has a hanging sleeve.
